About
Private Geocache Manager is a WordPress plugin and is being developed in conjunction with Gulf Coast Texas Outdoor Magazine and will be available as a standard option to anyone who has a website hosted at the Magazine or here at Gulf Coast Geocache.
The basic plugin will be free to download as well and will be compatible with WordPress Mu. I could use a few testers so anyone who is interested in testing should contact me and I’ll help get you set up.
In addition to the basic geocache course management, future plugin development will bring an add-on premium service that will include a rich tool-set for managing geocache sponsors, land access agreements, marketing campaigns, and a rewards management system. You will be able to set up themed geocache courses targeted to specific customers for specific sponsors.
With RSS technology, many related courses (blogs with private geocahe plugin) can be fed into a single feed, creating national and international networks of themed geocache treasure hunts. The marketing potential is limited only by the imagination.
There are no dates as of now for completion as I do have to try to make a living in the meantime. (I have been doing some of these lately, if your interested.) The goal is to have a beta version available by the end of the year.
Features in the first beta release will include:
- Easily create Google maps, including custom pop-up info boxes
- Import Google maps KML files
- Multi Widgets
- Publish maps using a post or page with a Shortcode
- Custom Taxonomies in addition to WordPress categories and tags. (User-defined taxonomies coming soon)
- WordPress comment system utilized for logging course / geocache activity so you can also use a comments plugin for comments and/or activity logging.
